Using 128x oversampling delta-sigma 24-bit converters, the D2424 provides up to 56 tracks (24 plus 32 ‘ghost’ tracks) of the highest quality hard disk recording. Each of its four bands features switch-selectable frequencies centered on and covering musical-step intervals from 32-Hz “C” to 22.35-kHz “F.” Its four overlapping bands are labeled with note names and frequency allowing for the first time a “translation” between musician-speak and engineer-jargon. The bandwidth control has similar notation with adjustment from 0.1 octave to 4 octaves per band and a boost / cut range of 12 dB.

The low-cut filter is switch selectable from 20-Hz to 150-Hz with slopes of either 12-dB or 24-dB per octave. The SF-24 is uncanny for creating ‘you-are-there’ stereo recordings that capture not only the instrument(s) being recorded, but, depending on how the microphone is positioned, varying degrees of the acoustical space. The SF-24 is actually two matched ribbon microphones placed one above the other in a coincident pair, each aimed 45 degrees from center in the classic Blumlein configuration. The magnet/pole piece structure of each ribbon transducer delivers a wide, uniform frequency response with no substantial peaks or dips, and the 1.8-micron ribbons produce superb transient response. Frequency response is excellent regardless of the angle of sound striking the ribbons and off-axis coloration is negligible.

Wherever sound matters, from a full orchestral recording for a blockbuster film to a lone singer, from a rock drummer to an R’n’B vocal, Neve technology provides the warmth, punch and definition so sought after by modern and classic producers.The legendary sound of Neve now becomes available to DAW based producers.

Sixteen input channels include level, pan, cut and cue controls. A +15dB gain range accommodates both -10dBv and +4dbm input levels. If sixteen inputs aren’t enough for your mix, multiple 8816 units can be cascaded together via the fixed level two track buss. The ultimate analogue mix buss utilises classic Neve transformer mixing topology. The mix outputs appear simultaneously as balanced +4dBm and unbalanced -10dBv. Mix Inserts are pre-fade for full control and can be switched between normal insert mode and mastering style sum and difference mode with stereo width control.

An optional digital output converts the analogue mix to any standard PCM sample rate up to 192kHz or DSD, Output PPM meters are complemented by overload LEDs to indicate clipping at the ADC or analogue output.
The monitor section selects between Mix Out, 2 Track Return, Channels 1 & 2 (DAW mix replay) and “i-mon” front panel input mini-jack, handy for quick mix comparisons. The monitor level is independent of the mix level and the monitor outputs can be switched between Main and Alt speakers. A separate Cue Output can be fed from three sources and the inbuilt Talkback mic. Headphones can be used to listen to either Cue or Monitor source. A USB connector allows snapshots of the 8816 settings to be saved to a PC or Mac and recalled ready for remix.

The Channel EQ module brings the legendary SSL twin-curve E and G series EQ from our large-format consoles into an affordable package with the X-Rack. The EQ is 4-band parametric with variable “Q” on the 2 mid bands, and shelf/bell control on the High and Low bands. The 2 new modules integrate fully with the X-Rack, giving Total Recall™ of all pots and switches. This can either be recalled from the X-Rack’s internal memory, 9-pin from a console such as the AWS900, or via your choice of sequencer.

The addition of active electronics between the mic capsule and mic amplifier in the Schoeps Colette Series allows the conventional mic configuration to be miniaturised without compromising performance, for applications where visual impact is a factor. Two mic preamp output stages are available: the CMC5UG has a Class-A output stage and requires 48V phantom power, while the CMC6UG is almost identical, but operates on 12-48V phantom power. Some of the capsules are also available in the form of stand alone miniature compact condenser microphones (CCM) which exhibit the same characteristics as the capsules whose name they bear.
