In response to a continual increase in market demand to record live performances, FX Rentals has created the FX Live Events division.
FX Chairman Roger Evan says, “While FX has long been handling this sort of work, improvements in portable technology has enabled gigs to be recorded cost-effectively without the need for a large mobile truck. And by providing experienced recording engineers and recording packages which are tailored to individual requirements, we really can supply a bundle that suits the event, the venue and the pocket!”
“Recent notable recordings we’ve handled have been Kate Nash, Ian Brown, Funeral for a Friend and Terry Hall and as we’re a rental company we can also offer a dry-hire facility. If you’re confident with your engineering abilities, you collect or we deliver the equipment and you handle the recording yourself. Hard Fi, The Ceiling and The Dead 60’s have recently taken up that option with us.”
“And of course, we’re not limited to recording live music. It’s very easy for us to put together a compact package to record a seminar or other ‘vocal’ or non-music event or performance.”
FX has ‘typical’ recording packages, but are obviously able to draw on a massive rental stock of analogue and digital recorders, valve & condenser microphones, valve and solid state processors, etc, etc… so please get in touch if you have specific equipment requirements.

Copyroom Manager Kevin Vanbergen reports – Steve Webbon at Beggars Banquet/4AD has recently asked us to remix this entire classic Pixies album in order to provide stems for future use with the computer games Guitar Heroes & Rockband. I’m having to mix by ear, using a cd as reference as after 20 years, the Recall Sheets have been long lost. read more…

Back in September 2007, FX was asked by Sound Editor Steve Browell to supply a comprehensive Pro Tools system for the Temp Mix stage of the, now acclaimed film Sweeney Todd.
One of London’s largest Dolby Digital mixing theatres, studio one at Future Post Production was the location and its AMS Neve DFC was the controlling console.
FX’s Matt Phillips reflects, “It was always going to be an intense installation, so you’ve got to get all the operational information from the client beforehand and do as much preparation off-site as possible. We supplied four 64 channel Pro Tools MADI- HD2 systems to stream audio to and from their DFC.
We used Sydec/SSL Madi-HD2 boxes which are a fantastic bits of gear. To be able to send 64 channels of audio down a single cable into a 1U rackmounted box and then directly into a Pro Tools system is so useful. And to do that without the usual miles of cables and interfaces… bliss!”
FX also supplied a Merging HD VCube Video System and two Lexicon 960L processors.
